So through years of being a rabid fan of Swervedriver's music I found that there were quite a few live shows that had been captured by tapers at various points in their short existence. Most of these recordings were gathering dust in closets or snuggled away in trader's collections never to be seen by the many fans who share my love for the band and its music. I tried for quite a few years personally to get my hands on ANY live recorded material I could. A big part of the ideal of being a trader and collector of live music is not selling and only trading material so not being a trader myself I had no way of getting my foot in the door, so to speak, but from looking at trading lists I knew that there were gems to be uncovered.
Then I found the now defunct sharingthegroove.org where fans of live music were able to share live music recordings AND videos in full quality formats using Bittorent technology. Finally I was able to garner a small collection of video and audio from the band and this led into me meeting a few traders who pretty much offered me the full run of the collections that they had gathered for so many years. It is from their kindness of offering me access to this footage that in turn I want to share with everyone that wants it.
sharingthegroove.org also opened my eyes to the techniques needed to re-master dvds in full quality with menus, chapter points, backgrounds, etc. There were a talented and great bunch of folks that frequented their forums creating dvd cover art and doing very professional looking re-masters of fan recorded footage from all eras. I'm using the skills that I learned there to bring back to life these sometimes misplaced and forgotten live swervedriver performances. I am not an art major; I do not do this professionally. I'm by far not the greatest at doing this but I know there are folks out there who feel the same way I do. There will never be another Swervedriver. I feel its my duty to get this footage to as many people as possible so the legacy of one of the most underrated and unlucky bands ever may live on.
If you'd like to help out with the project in any way please feel free to hit up the contact button. Someone has already volunteered their time and studio to help clean up the audio on shows as we re-work them. I'd really like to get a Bitorrent tracker set up for the next release but no experience in doing so; anyone with that knowledge would be a huge help. If we are able to get a tracker going we'll need folks with high speed connections to help as seeders too.
Disclaimer: As far as I know we are in good standing with the band about "re-mastering" this footage and getting it out to folks. Jez, Steve, and Adi in particular have given great feedback and all the band get copies as they are completed. Let's keep this good vibe going by NEVER selling these performances and only sharing them with the community.
