DVD Project
This is one of the first shows I was able to get my hands on. Sadly I had to purchase it from an online service for $45 but knowing it was out there it had to be done. The footage itself isn't the greatest being a little dark and grainy from unknown VHS generations. The camera is center stage and is either on a tripod or the taper had a very steady hand. Upon watching this one Steve G. mentioned that he remembered it being a "very Noisy/Aggressive/Tense show but didn't really come through in the footage".

This one worked out pretty good that the two consecutive days were filmed and would both fit on a single DVD in full quality. The Tower Records instore footage was filmed standing directly in front of Adam during the set, there is very little of Jim showing in this footage because someone was standing in the line of sight to the right. Filmed with a handheld camcorder the video is a little shakey at times but the audio is great. Talking to Jez or Steve about this show (can't remember which one) and they recalled having monster hangovers and little sleep as this was an early outing for them. The same tapers recorded the following show at Trees Lounge in Dallas. This one was also filmed with a handheld camcorder from center stage on the upper balcony.

Ahhhh the compilation. This one was a beast for obvious reasons. Lots of different little tidbits from here and there. Thankfully I think the disk one footage was used pretty much how it came to me. The other disk took quite a bit of wrestling to get everything to agree to the DVD formatting. All said and done I think it took over 6 months of working here and there to get this one together. Due to so many different sources being used the video/sound quality goes from superb (Duel from 120 Minutes on the second disk) to borderline unusable (The Beat concert footage had seen better days) but in the end to have it complete as possible everything was included. Several board members had videos transfered from PAL format to NTSC so they could be included. By the knowledge of the forums one of the few items missing is the Magic Bus video (from a snowboarding movie). If you know anything that isn't included on this let me know and I'll be on the lookout for it.
Originally I had a vision to include all the SWD images that I could find and make a slideshow with the KCRW radio show interview in the background but sadly I found out after much trying that there was a limitation with the DVD software I was using to build these. So there was a nice little show from San Diego at the Brick by Brick Club that fit nicely in its slot. Filmed from behind the crowd to the left of the stage a bit (possibly standing on a riser pad?), not much view of Steve in this footage because of a PA speaker hanging directly in front of his position. The audio is a little overblown in parts (sadly towards the end during duress), but its bearable.

*Additional notes from Jez pulled from the SWD boards: Jez here. Just to say thanks to James G for sending those dvds over. Gaz was very happy to get his, and I posted Steve's off to him this morning. Good to see that 120 minutes recording - I'm sure Gaz will be interested to see it too...for the first time...On the basis that he was sent back to the hotel "in disgrace" before the recording, for being abusive to the TV people & throwing a carton of orange juice, with Jackson Pollack-like results. Something to do with my rental kit being the wrong colour I seem to remember :) I mentioned this to him a couple of evenings ago. Oh, how we laughed!

Leave that Brad Steward guy alone! Not only did he shoot the Duel snowboard video (which including filming whilst snowboarding backwards down Mount Hood), he also taught us to snowboard in a very short space of time, arranged a lot of our Mt. Hood trip (including getting "SWERVEDRIVER" written on all the ski passes issued on Mt Hood one day (now THAT is a collectors item!), pretty much invented the sport of snowboarding - I could go on.... - and is to this day one of the finest people I have had the honour to spend time with. There are some stories between us :)
I'm very happy. Dropped in to see what's going on - and "BRAD STEWARD" ("heh heh") is posting! If you see this Brad - the devil is still sitting there. Hope all is well friend. jez x

*Additional note from Adi pulled from the SWD boards:
>Sandblasted especially - did i see the Raise cover in an instant >there as the sunlight refracted in the camera lens?

Probably..all the images on the front and back cover of Raise are stills from the Sandblasted video.
A few of the guys in the video were from A&M, I never met the tollbooth guy so I can't comment on him but all the people I ever dealt with at A&M were great. Very nice, enthusiastic and very helpful. Good drinkers too some of them.

*Additional notes from Brad Steward (who directed the duel video) pulled from the SWD boards: First time on the forum here. Happened to see some notes about the Duel video. I directed the video here in Oregon and in London. I know I have one really shitty copy left - watched it the other day for a good laugh. If anyone needs info or has questions about it just let me know.

that was the first video i ever directed - so i hardly look at it as any sort of achievement, but it was fun as hell!!! the building you are talking about is an old abandonded saw mill outside of stevenson, washington. we were desperate for a place to shoot - broke in, as I recall - and shot until we heard cars coming toward the building. I spent a while shooting stills and videos with the band for about two years (on and off I guess). good guys - all of 'em.

as I recall (those days are a bit hazy) there are two versions because the record label was unsure about having the band snowboarding. some people thought it made them look cool, others thought it made them look like they were tagging on to the 'new hip sport' of the day. I cut the original version with Jez and another guy (name escapes me) in London. The second version was cut by the label with band comments. for the record, the band members all did their own snowboarding - with Jez and Jim absolutely going ape shit. Adam was a bit reluctant - but figured it out very quick and was actually a pretty decent rider by the end of the shoot. we also shot some stills after the shoot - one of which shows three members of the band standing near the base of a massive waterfall. the photo was released on a vinyl 45 of Duel - it's from Multnomah falls, here in Oregon - on the way home from the video shoot.
